More Pocono pics.

In what appears to be a inevitability for the August Race at Pocono when we arrived at 6am it was pouring.  WE had to scramble to get the tent up so we could tailgate breakfast.

After the rain let up a bit we went to check out the merchandising trailers and then to check on the condition of the track.  There's nothing to make a woman smile like the sound of jet dryers in the morning!

After the pre-race ceremonies it started to sprinkle again and they had to cover up the cars.

One of the best things about tony on the pole is that from our seats we had an awesome view of all his pit stops.

Welcome to the August 5th edition of Thursday Thunks!
(which we always seem to post on Wednesday)
Where we make you think a little bit before you blog!
We pick a subject, and your job is to interpret it anyway you want.
Write about it on your blog... simple as that.
Maybe you can interpret it as a picture - we don't care!

Please only leave a link if you have written a Thursday Thunks post.
Don't forget to go visit the other
participants' blogs.
Read and comment about all their Thursday Thunks responses!
That's what all this is about after all, isn't it?
We'll have so much fun and become lifelong friends....
The TT questions are brought to you by Bud, the color of Judd Corizan's hair dye and the number 33.
1. Do you have any special talents? Tell us about them. I have lots of special talents... most I can't list here or there will be a warning like Bud has to get in my blog.  So the special talent that I can share would be that I can make almost anything funny.  SOmething happens and a funny remark just heads out of my mouth.  If laughter is the best medicine, my friends  should be healthy as all hell.  A corollary to this talent would be my ability to mock almost anything.

2. What is your favorite sound? Engines firing up at a racetrack. - Not just NASCAR either.

3. What was your favorite TV show as a child or teen? Non sports? In Search of...  NOVA was a close second. But I really watched very little TV as a kid, so most of my tv viewing was football, baseball, hockey and when they showed races , racing.

4. There are a lot of specialty TV networks now devoted to things like golf, gardening, shopping, game shows, sports, news and sci-fi. Do you have any favorite TV networks? Those of you that read my blog semi-regularly will remember the angst caused by losing Food Network for 2 weeks - so I'd have to say Food Network. ( watching Tyler right now)

5. What is your guilty pleasure TV show? I have recently gotten sucked into Deadliest Catch.  The captains of the Time Bandit and the Northwestern are really .... sexy.  Angie and my sister and some other female friends think I have weird taste.  I told Angie if I didn't she wouldn't be here!

6. Berleen is on the top of a mountain. How on earth did she get there and what was she doing? Well, obviously she took the chairlift up because she is going skiing with me!

7. Have you ever dreamt that you made love to someone you haven’t yet met? Ok, needing some clarification here.  DO you mean someone you haven't met who probably doesn't even exist?  Or like someone who is real, but you just never met ( Like when I was younger and had lots of interesting encounters with Joe Montana in my sleep?)

8. Berleen decides to run away and join the circus. What could you imagine her performing under the big top? Berleen's a mom - so I guess she would do what mom's do all the time - juggling on a tightrope.

9. What is your favorite sci-fi movie? Oh this is a tough question.  I was really, really into Science fiction.  used to go to all the con's dressed in costume even.  I'm going with Dune.  Watched the movie enough time to know all the words, the soundtrack got me through college as everytime I needed to write a paper or finish a project I would play it over and over and over.  And the books were even better.  So a multi-media fav.

10. What is your favorite reality show? Deadliest catch - see question 5.

Do you like how I worked a gratuitous Tony shot in there?? huh?? Huh???

11. Bud says he is on vacation. What do you think he is doing? Hoping he is somewhere exotic and getting pampered together with his lady.

12. When shopping at the grocery store, do you always return your cart? My store makes you stick a quarter in there to get the cart so if you don't return it you lose a quarter.  If the weather is really, really bad (snow or rain) I'll leave the quarter in so the cart boys can get a tip.

13. Do you take compliments well? depends.

Race Weekend part 1

 IMAG0204-1-1
Riot truck looking for rogue knitters.

We went to Pocono Raceway over the weekend for the Sprint cup race, the ARCA race, and for the first time the Craftsman truck race.  Saturday Angie was working, so it was really weird going without her.  Did our usual tailgate breakfast and since first practice started at 9 we headed in at 8, so I could check out the fan zone and the merchandise trailers.  As we went through the security check where they usually check for glass bottles, aerosol sunscreen and umbrellas, the 2 security guards decided that my knitting needles were dangerous!  Mind you they had over 8" of knitting on them so it was obvious they weren't a prop.  After some discussion, they decided I could either pull out the needles ( are you insane?) or bring them back to the car.  I was pissed.  It is a good thing we arrived at 6am so were parked only 100 yards from the checkpoint. I was kind of disappointed/surprised that there was absolutely nothing to be had for either the trucks or ARCA.  Not even a generic series t-shirt!

Practice made me a bit nervous as Tony never really rose above 20th.  he even made a comment to his crew chief that it would be nice to see his number on the pylon (Pocono's pylon only goes to 8th) Darian told him they were playing looksee and not to worry he'd have a fast horse the next morning.  Then the trucks qualified.  It was very bizarre- at any given time there was a car coming up to speed, a truck qualifying and a truck slowing down on the track.  AAaacckk! it was worse than watching a Rolex race!!
Happy hour was more of the same- JJ and Jeffie playing around at the top of the pylon.

Justin's truck waiting for post race inspection - the white one #7

The driver I'm rooting for this year, is the ARCA driver I was rooting for last year - Justin Lofton.  He qualified well and after a bit of a battle finished 6th.  Great job Justin!!

Then the ARCA race.  I've been rooting for Patrick Sheltra this year.  He qualified horribly.  Really horrible. Surprising because he has raced here before and is near the top of the points in the series.  He raced phenomenally.  passed a lot of cars, got caught up in the pits, and had to repass them.  During the final lap he passed Frank Kimmel ( superstar of ARCA racing)  and ended up 5th.  Woot!

David Ragan signing autographs.  If you can't tell from the jacket he's wearing it was a cool weekend.  the warmest it got was 75 on Sunday when the sun comes out.

Mac N Cheese

You Are Macaroni and Cheese

Compared to most people, you are quite playful. You are a big kid at heart.

It doesn't take much to make you happy. You live for simple, happy moments.

You are very content. You don't try to make life overly complicated.

You remain thankful for whatever you have. Even if it isn't much, you make the best of things.

Pizza

Your Pizza Says You Aren't a Picky Eater

People may tell you that you have a small appetite... but you aren't under eating. You just aren't a pig.

You aren't particularly picky about pizza. It's so good... how could you be? You fit in best in the Western part of the US.

You like food that's traditional and well crafted. You aren't impressed with "gourmet" foods.

You are generous, outgoing, and considerate with your choices.

You are cultured and intellectual. You should consider traveling to Vienna.

The stereotype that best fits you is freak. Obviously.
