Winter!

Your Soul Is Connected to the Winter

You approach life with a zen-like calm that other people envy. Nothing rattles you.

You are smart, thoughtful, and very serious. You don't stress out, but you don't take much lightly.

You like to keep to yourself, and you've been called shy - even if you don't consider yourself that way.

You prefer a cozy, quiet life filled with ideas, books, and maybe a few friends.

Happy Birthday Curt!!

Today is Curt's birthday.  I won't tell you how old he is - but he's 358 days older than I am - so I'll always be his younger woman!! Hee hee hee.  I met Curt in college, but did not fall in love with him until many years later.  We have been together for over 19 years now, have an amazing daughter and a pretty good life.
I am well aware that I am not the easiest person to get along with all the time, and that I am definitely an odd duck.  Curt gets me better than anyone else, friend, family, shrink that I know.  As cliched as it sounds - he is my best friend, my soul mate.  I can be flighty like a kite, and he's the rock that keeps me from being lost among the clouds. He is really supportive of my ideas ( my cockamamie ideas if you ask my father in law)  even the ones he knows aren't going to last. ( I have surprised him with how long I've stuck with knitting)
It would be a lot harder for me to be me, if he weren't there next to me. And he isn't threatened by my incorrigible flirting.  ( He knows I cant help it - it's just me)

So, for his special day, there is cranberry french toast casserole in the oven, I am taking him to HOT RODS BBQ -awesome pit BBQ , lots of classic car stuff - for lunch.  Got HIM a birthday cake from Cold Stone Creamery.  Couldn't figure out what to get him, he was no help 'cause he didn't want anything.  So at some point next week there will be a package from NASCAR.com is all I'm saying ( Go Smoke!)

Another Creepy Cute Crochet!

Meet the Vampyre Queen!  My latest evil minion!   You have no idea how hard her hair was to do!!
Here she is before assembly:

I am FINALLY ready to felt my Autumn ( the name of the mystery bag I was making) YAY!  I made a whole bunch of changes near the end, but of course I am prone to that.  I added a side cell/glasses pocket, 2 other interior pockets on the long side, and decided I didn't like the way the Eco-alpaca scarf bunched up in the "belt" loops.  A few other knitters posted on the Rav group that they had made a second i-cord braid to go through the loops.  I liked the way that looked a lot better.  SO last night I whipped out three i-cords and braided them.  I guess the scarf will be a scarf! LOL

The back & outer pocket of the bag (yes only I post the back first)

The front of the bag.

Really bad picture of the interior pockets!

So now it's off to the washing machine for felting!  I can't wait to see how it comes out!  I've done a lot of felting, but it is an inexact science to be sure, so even though I think I know how it will come out, only the washer knows for sure!  Pic's of the finished bag in a few days!!

Brilliant!

Happy Thanksgiving!!

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone and their friends and families! Just a quick post here - remember Go Raiders!! (must root against Dallas always! )

So the wine I got for my sister is the Smoking Loon. Hee hee hee - ok would be funnier if she smoked, but still funny!  And for my S-I-L  I got GatoNegro Carmenerebecause she is afraid of cats and because on the back of the bottle it says: GatoNegro is a wine for those occasions when you are with your friends, your loved ones or just by yourself and you want to enjoy the moment in a relaxed and simple way.  hee hee hee

More Birthday

After my post regarding birthday cake, my friend ThomAT Thom's Place  sent me a birthday cake all the way from Hawaii!  Well this cake anyway:
happy_birthday_cake-1732

Curt actually felt bad and brought home a german chocolate cake - yummy - on Monday.  Am I spoiled or what?

Speaking of spoiled - I went to lunch with my friend Grace from Lovingcomfortsknits

from grace

A stuffed kitty - that I seriously was jealous of when she made some others last summer, panda wool , soysilk, a row counting bracelet - that neither of us could figure out, and Angie picked it up and figured it out in about 30 seconds! - and the cutest little teapot!  and a scarf that I actually watched  her knit a while back while we were having coffee/tea!

I hope everyone has a fantastic Thanksgiving!  Go Raiders ( gotta root for whomever is playing Dallas.)

Happy Birthday to Me!

Yes, you read that right - today is my birthday!

Other than sports ( not even going into that today)  I had a pretty great day.

Angie drove on the interstate for the first time.  She went 7 miles - 4 exits.  She didn't do that bad.  We went to cracker barrel for breakfast. cracker_barrel

Then Angie and I went for some pampering.  We got pedicures, ( she got a manicure too - but for me no one but Lauren touches my claws)  massages, coffee.  It was fun and relaxing.

edible arrangements

I got a really yummy Edible Arrangement which was great.  However, I told Curt at least 6 or 7 times in the last week or so that I REALLY WANTED A BIRTHDAY CAKE!  I mean I just flat out told him!  No subtle hints or anything, which don;t work on men anyhow.  And NO BIRTHDAY cake:(

Oh well, I guess I'll survive.

I was recently in a swap on Ravelry for Creepy Cute Crochet creatures.  I'm not telling until my partner gets her package what I made for her, but I made another creature for me!  My new mascot to watch hockey games with!

You are the independent type. It's hard for people to peg, label, or stereotype you.

You enjoy people and things from all walks of life. You're incredibly open minded.

You tend to be a bit fickle and even moody. You can end up hating what you love and vice versa.

I HAZ A JOB!

Many thanks to everyone who was sending out prayers and positive job vibes my way.  After the most facetious interview probably in the history of the company,  I was offered the first choice position I interviewed for.  Including several stipulations that were seriously in the "grey area" outside the position.  So I am a seriously happy camper.  ( One of my stipulations was that I get to keep unloading the Braun"s truck ;P  - Grace you can laugh at me it's ok) Although he waited until after 12pm, when my former position was being eliminated at 2pm.  But several people in my old position had already gone home and he never talked to them. That seriously sucks, because they need to wait until Monday to find out what is happening with them.  And as we all ultimately put in for the same position which only has 3 slots, 4 people are not going to be happy.

Grace laughs at me because I can be so obvious that quizes always seem to end up too neat.  ( Here's a hint- I don't always publish results that are way off)  But after I took this quiz I had to post it, because she is my Mara's buddy - Mara's being an awesome coffee/dessert place that has now added yummy lunches (breakfast and dinner as well)  and great homemade soup.  But I mostly go for the company and coffee!  ( We were a knitting group of 4, but the other 2 knitters have had a rough summer with family illnesses etc.  So I don't know if they'll be coming back.)

You Think Best at a Coffee Shop

In order to be able to think, you sometimes have to pull yourself out of a rut. All it takes is a change of scenery.

You are inspired by any one of your senses. The smell of coffee, the taste of a latte, the feel of a comfy sofa, the sounds of conversation...

For you, there's no such thing as too much stimulation. If anything is a creativity killer, it's dead quiet.

The bustle and changing scenery of a coffee shop prevents your mind from being hung up on one or two things. A dynamic atmosphere gets your ideas flowing.

THUNK

A Small Meme In A Big Sea

Welcome to the November 19th version of Thursday Thunks
Where we make you think a little bit before you blog!

We pick a subject, and your job is to interpret it anyway you want. Write about it on your blog... simple as that. Maybe you can interpret it as a picture - we don't care!
Please only leave a link if you have written a Thursday Thunks post. Please mention us in your post, and link back to the blog here.
Don't forget to go visit the other participants' blogs. Read and comment about all their Thursday Thunks! Thats what all this is about afterall, isn't it? We'll have so much fun and become lifelong friends....

This week we will answer some
crazy questions brought to you by
Kimber, the color of a clown fish and the number 10595.

1. If you won a brand new house in a Dream House Giveaway would you move into it, sell it to pay the taxes and make a profit, rent it out or give it to a family member/friend who might need it?It would depend on where it was, if it was around here, or NC I'd keep it.  Anywhere else I'd sell and buy something around here or NC.

2. Are you good at billards? An ex spent a ton of time trying to teach me ( after we broke up and he was trying to get me back - but it was past the 90 days!)  and basically a huge FAIL.  I still suck.

3. Does anyone on the planet really want to see Levi Johnston naked in Playgirl (other than when Bristol Palin did)? I don't really want to see Levi Johnston period.

4. Is your phone ringing right now? Why aRE YOU CALLING ME?  If so you must have dialed the wrong number?

5. Do you think man has eaten or tried to eat every type of animal on the face of the earth at one point or another? If not, what don't you think man has tried? I'm not sure about tarantulas... but as a displaced red-neck who got the rule of you shoot it you eat it  along with my first gun as a child, and after watching Anthony Bourdain and the chubby bald guy (can't remember his name- Andrew Zimmerman)  and what they eat on their world travels I think people have eaten everything else!

6. The new movie Avatar has been showing sneak peeks and been hyped to the max. Will you see it? Never heard of Avatar - but I can't wait for NINE.

7. If a slightly bigger fish eats a small fish, then a bigger fish immediately eats that one, then an even bigger fish immediately eats that fish and then finally a huge fish eats the one that just ate that fish and it gets caught by you... how many meals will you have from that one fish? I'll be back in a bit  - I got the sudden urge for sushi...

8. If you had an appointment with the doctor and all the plants in the office were dead, would you still see the doctor? Well, better than dead people in the office I think.  Actually there is only one plant in my dr's office that I can think of, but it is alive.

9. Have you ever seen the number 666 in a dream? Not a fair question as I am evil.

10. "At 20 years of age the will reigns, at 30 the wit, at 40 the judgment."~ Benjamin Franklin
So what happens at 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100? at 50 freedom (kids are gone and grown) at 60 the bladder "rains" at 70  the nap rules, at 80 you're just happy to wake up, at 90 you don't know you are awake and at 100 you just forgot to die.

11. Would you want your phone number to be (area code) 123-4567?  Better than 867-5309!

Silver or Gold?

You Are Silver

You are down to earth and unpretentious. You don't feel like you need to show off, and you're very secure with your place in the world.

You are understated and elegant. You carry yourself with poise, and you're more known for what you don't do than what you do.

You can fit in anywhere from a country western bar to a black tie gala. You are adaptable and adventurous.

You are blind to social class and background. You see people as who they are ... not as where they came from or how much money they have.

So I never post about Johnny?

I was told recently ( by a butt-in-ski that never comments on my blog) that I never post about my "little" brother John.   John was in NJ last weekend and we went by for dinner on Friday night. ( ended in disaster but , oh well, that's family for you)  Here's some pics.

Powderpuff

The BIG Powderpuff Game between the Juniors and Seniors was held today at the High School.  Last year, the juniors pulled off a huge upset and beat the seniors (first time since the game has been played) So this year there was a lot of pressure on them as seniors to win.  Angie was pretty confident after 2 weeks of practice.

Philly Weekend

This past weekend, we shot up to take a campus tour of UCONN in Connecticut ( no pic's - picture big campus - dairy farm across the street)  then went down to Philly to see Temple and Drexel. Yes, during the transit strike - but as someone used to NYC, honestly bad day in Philly beats good day in NYC.  I mean traffic was moving at 15mph on 76 through the city.  Key word moving, not stop, stop, stop, go three feet, stop, stop, stop, go 2 feet like in Manhattan.  While we were there Angie wanted to see Body Worlds 2 and the Brain at the Franklin Institute.  These are actual bodies preserved by Plastination in different poses.  You see the muscles, the nerves etc. etc.  It is fascinating and just a tad creepy.  There are slices of organs ( can't imagine lighting up a cigarette after that exhibition - may need to bring a few friends down there - ) showing smokers vs non smokers - and not just their lungs.   Angie found it giggly that the male "organs" were still attached, but she is a teenager.  No photos were allowed, but if you get the chance to go to see this, I would highly recommend it.

Angie also HAD to have a Philly cheesesteak from either Pat's or Gino's because they both claim to have originated the Philly cheese steak.  We walked ( damn gps)  the serious long way up the main road that goes along 76, then cut over on 10th, walked through China town, kept going a while, went up to 9th walked some more, went through what appeared to be their little italy ( great market through that section of 9th - I bought chocolate covered strawberries, and fresh made torrone in one of the stores)  walked some more and 45 minutes later found the intersection with the 2 places. ( We did not use the gps on the way back and while walking slower, got back in 20 minutes! damn gps - why I don't have one)  We ended up at Pat's because you could get provolone and Gino's only does cheese whiz (yuck)  The line at both places wrapped around the buildings.

H1N1 Insane TT Questions Of The Week

Welcome to the November 12th version of Thursday Thunks!
(which we always seem to post on Wednesday)

Kimber & her fathead hubby Anthony, the color of chocolate and the number 2.

1. Thursday Thunks is written by 2 insane women (Berleen & Kimber) that have never met face to face yet are best friends. One lives in Minnesota and the other in Arizona. They keep trying to convince each other to move to their state. What color house will Berleen have here in Arizona?
I'm going to give Berleen the benefit of the doubt, and say she's not insane enough to move somewhere with scorpions and 120 degree weather.  So
Kimber's house in MN would be bright yellow to remind her of the sun in Arizona.

2. Do you dream in black & white or color, and how do you know your brain isn't just playing games with you?
My dreams are so bizarre, and slightly psychotic enough that color or black and white are the least of my problems!

3. Does bubble gum lose it's flavor on the bedpost?

Don't chew gum.

4. We're buying Underoos. Which superhero do you pick?
Seriously - why don't they make super villain underoos?  I've always wanted super villain underoos.  And let's face it - female super villains get much sexier cloths - and I want a cool black cat to stroke while I plot your  the rest of the worlds doom! mwahahahahaha!!

5. Do you think if you yell loud enough while watching your favorite sporting event, it makes a difference in the outcome of the event?
If you had ever heard how hoarse I am some Monday mornings at work, you wouldn't even be asking me that question.  Silly you!  Of Course they can hear me.  They hear every word I say.  The problem is they don't always listen to me!  They would win a whole lot more if they would only listen to me!

6. Is the word gullible in the dictionary?
I would assume so - but you aren't tricking me into checking.

7. If you could pick any currancy to be the face on which currancy would it be?
Would I get to keep said currency?  How 'bout million dollar bills then?  But really - did you not read number 4? Soon the world will be mine and all your pathetic currency will be useless, useless I tell you! Mwahahahaha!

8. What was your imaginary friend's name as a kid, and did they ever annoy you or just us?
Reading this question makes me wonder how sad it was growing up in Arizona or Minnesota.  I had Real friends.  I didn't need imaginary ones.  And since I do have an anti-social streak - I didn't want any more!

9. Do you think it's ironic that the poop deck is in the rear of the ship?
I find it ironic that whatever they call the bathroom is not on the poop deck!

Thank you to my hubby for helping with insane questions when we are both sick, and you now know the crazy I married. No drugs, just insanity. And lots of laughter. Can't wait to read your answers.

Swap Goodies

I signed up for a few swaps recently.  One is in the Chase for the Championship group for knitting NASCAR fans on Ravelry.  Wendy (who has also become my race day chat friend) sent me this amazing swap package.

from Wendy!
Isn't that the greatest water bottle ever?!  And the softest blue sky alpacas yarn, and chocolate - yum! and isn't that tape measure the cutest?  Now the spindle, roving and I are kind of staring at each other  suspiciously.  I always said I had no interest of learning to spin.  Wendy has recently brought up an interesting possibility though.  It may intrigue me enough to want to learn.....  slurp.

I'm in another group on Ravelry - 12 dancing dishcloths - each month all the members send one member a cloth.  So by the end of the 12 months, you've sent 11 and received 11 cloths.  This month, coincidentally my birthday?, I get the cloths sent to me.

Grace hand delivered this package when we met for lunch last week
Dancing Dishcloth from Grace

Andrea sent this one with hand made sandalwood soap
dd from andrea

KT from Vancouver sent this one. I wish you could feel it, it so soft and has a shine that most cotton yarns don't have.
from KT IN Vancouver - DD

Bonnie sent this one - matches my bathroom!
