Sensational Haiku Wednesday

Sensational Haiku Wednesday
Sensational Haiku Wednesday

Welcome to “Sensational Haiku Wednesday!”

Click here for info and background on this weekly event!
The basics:
Haiku is simple! It is 3 non-rhyming lines of 5, 7, and 5 syllables respectively (a great way to use your fingers!)

This week’s theme is: Travel

I want to go on

A yarn crawl through Uruguay

Are you coming with?

(just think- Manos, Malabrigo, Aruncania, Mirasol...)

Philly is two hours

down the New Jersey Turnpike,

so far from Angie!

 A dream vacation

traveling down the Irish lanes,

will someday happen.

So yes I've been a bad blogger lately.  It's not even being busy, it's being in a mental funk.  Most of which I really can't discuss.  So forgive me, and hopefully I'll pull myself up to post more.

A hedonist - maybe..

Your Sensuality Score is: 90%

You taste, smell, feel, see, and hear more strongly than most people.

Even the smallest sensual act can be quite divine for you.

You are a hedonist. You like to experience it all... whether it's food, art, music, or sex.

If you're not careful, you're apt to overindulge or get addicted to a certain pleasure.

Did you ever wonder what they do with Vickers old cars?

DSCF4819

DSCF4818

Two German guys took one of Brian Vickers' old NASCAR stock cars, cut it up, used the pieces to create a electic pipe organ and percussion "instrument"  They apparently travel with and play at all the Red Bull Air Race venues.  While techno is really not my genre of preferred music - if you're going to be "techno" you should use some technology.

red bull instrument

Curt took a video and managed to turn his sound on -  so I may repost if I can download his.

Exploding muppet guts

First another big THANK YOU to Thom from Thoms Place for well whatever  a few weeks ago, I won a gift card to Knit Picks from him.  So I finally decided on a 7 skein sock kit with patterns for 7 socks.  It came last week -

IMAG0125.jpg

IMAG0126.jpg

And since I was treating my tootsies , I got myself a second 4 sock kit as well.

IMAG0124.jpg

My toes are wiggling in anticipation!

I went through a  lot of my yarn-
IMAG0122.jpg
Curt came home and asked what was up with the "exploding muppet guts" sounds like a comment in my friend Jen's blog ( see sarah winchester on the sidebar) She actually sort of inspired me - because I thought her method of sorting by yarn weight was better than my failed method of by color. ( I own way to much of some colors - not red , can't own enough red! and just one green skein.)  I also had to figure out, what to part with as I was in a side bet for the NASCAR All Star race and needed to send 2 people a skein out of stash.  And I was in a stash swap that I had to send a skein for.( The disaster you see above is about 1/3 of my yarn)

IMAG0127.jpg

This is 12 pounds of yarn I decided I didn't want and wouldn't ever knit with ( most bought when I was first teaching myself to knit - I've grown out of it) and sent it to a teacher in Jersey City who works with kids after school teaching them to knit and looks for yarn donations. There are also a bunch of plastic knitting needles that I don't use anymore.  I realize school gets out this or next week, but hopefully she can use it next year.

Oh I also have a king size plastic comforter case, and half a twin sized one filled with acrylic yarn designated for afghans that will be sent to my friend Min, to consolidate a bunch of my Ravelry friends' afghans to be donated to Victory Junction Camp in NC.

Prom Pics? You think Angie gave me them already?

I'm still waiting for Ecuador pictures!  But here are three pic's I took with my phone. ( Most of her school shows up at the Lake clubhouse - and those not going show up to see the dresses etc, and even recent grads from the last few years as well - like 50o kids and a bunch of parents - and one cop)

Snakes, Hiking, And Shirt Colors

Welcome to the June 17th edition of Thursday Thunks!
(which we always seem to post on Wednesday)
Where we make you think a little bit before you blog!

We pick a subject, and your job is to interpret it anyway you want.
Write about it on your blog... simple as that.
Maybe you can interpret it as a picture - we don't care!
Please only leave a link if you have written a Thursday Thunks post.
Please mention us in your post, and link back to the blog here.
Don't forget to go visit the other participants' blogs.
Read and comment about all their Thursday Thunks responses!
That's what all this is about after all, isn't it?
We'll have so much fun and become lifelong friends....

The TT questions are brought to you by Kimber, the color of success and the number 1567.

1. Have you ever wondered why snakes can't slither backwards?  No, but I guess they are slinky enough they can pull a u-turn.

2. Is divorce contagious? I don't know.  I only hang out with one person who is divorced, and I think he married way, way too early, (sorry Gracie, but I think you should be at least 25 - 19 is a baby) And he's pretty solidly married now.

3. Do you enjoy hiking? I used to, now my definition of hiking is the walk from the parking lot, to my seats at whichever track I make it to.

4. Is there a color of a shirt a man should just never wear? Light mint green, don't know why but I haven't seen any guy who looks good in that color.

5. Have you read a news story this week that just made your blood boil? This week? Have a pile I need to read. If I look at them by Sunday all is good.

6. Do you keep old business cards or name tags from companies you have worked for? I've been with my co. for 19 years 3mos.  So if I have any it's not on purpose.

7. If you could save an endangered species, which one would it be? Polar bears, no tigers, no cheetahs, oh crap now I'm sad...

8. When is it warm enough outside for you to start wearing shorts? 50 degrees?

9. Have you ever broken a window? Seriously it wasn't my fault

10. Do dogs in your neighborhood howl when they hear sirens from police cars or fire trucks?A few bark, of course a few bark at dust I think.

11. Have you tried doing something as an adult that you used to be able to do as a kid? Not recently.

Alien eyes?

Quick post today, I'm really tired.  I worked 11 1/2 hours and I mean WORKED.  The last two were strictly my fault.  We have a new carpet set, and even though only one of the new carpets came in, I didn't want to start playing musical pins.  Originally my plan was just to rearrange the rolls on one machine.  BUT since that machine had 2 new carpets ( the one that I have, and one that will be here next week) and only one free pin, one roll had to go to hte next machine.  Here's where my attempt at suicide kicked in.  I didn't want to put that roll on a haphazard pin.  But to put it on the pin it will now call home, I had to move that roll, etc etc. Do you remember the sliding tile puzzles from when we were kids?  It was sort of like that and in the end I moved 36 rolls.  Took 2 hours.  But it's all in the right spot, and one of my minions who is like 10 feet tall ( Ok 6'8" but rounded to the nearest 10) moved all the display samples for me. On the plus side I have to leave work early tomorrow, so it'll even out.

I've had some questions about my vertical garden box, so here's some updated pictures.

Closeup of the plant Curt calls the "alien".  Until today it looked like it was growing eyestalks with white eyeballs.  Well today, I noticed that the white circles broke up into a bunch of tiny buds and it apparently has red flowers!

if I'm showing you the front I may as well show all of it right? SO these are my "happy" flowers on the steps.

Boats - and I have issues with freight

So yesterday, when we left Ellis Island and cruised over to the Statue of Liberty ( BTW - airport like security to get on the ferry to get to  Ellis Island.  Then when you go to the Statue you go through the detectors again.  Then when you want to go in the pedestal/statue, you need to leave your bag in a locker and go through screening again!  Seriously - where since last time you checked me would I have come up with something?  frogmen swimming up to the ferry?)  The boats fascinated me.

waiting barges

There were so many freighters and barges waiting for tugs - Port Elizabeth, Port newark and any NY ports getting these boats must still be busy.

tug at work

Tug at work.  As I'm watching them (you'd think I was an 8 year old boy) I'm wondering what's in the containers. ( I mean I do get some of my import stuff through Port Elizabeth - so one of those freighters could have my stuff!!)  And basically wondering why they are all pointed away from Jersey, until the tug turned one.  Curt then agreed with something that was said to me on Friday - that I'm not wound to tight.  SIGH..

mystery grey boat

Maybe Jen knows what these mystery grey boats are, but there were 4 of them and they had serious right away.  The circle line and beast tour boats stopped and other boats turned out of their lane, and the marine traffic didn't go back to normal until they passed.

grey boats have serious right of way!

Even the Statan Island Ferry waited for the grey boats to pass.

I am a dumbass!

Some background first - On Wednesday I had texted my friend C before he delivered my carpet.  When he got to my dock, I asked him why he didn't answer and he said he never got it.  The next morning I get a text from him that said "today is Thursday". SO me being the smartass I am congratulated him on the purchase of a calendar. Then I  realized he must have just gotten my text from the day before.

So, on Friday I was all psyched about going to the Red Bull Air Races this weekend, and told him all about it.  This morning we drove to Jersey City.  No traffic approaching Liberty State Park.  Parked in the first row closest to the waterfront.  And it was already 930.  Pre-race festivities were supposed to start at 10. No crowd.  Walk up to the gate, the guy is talking about how it takes 10 days to set up for the races.  Then we look at the tickets. Which are for the 19th and 20th.  We are dumbasses.  I saw my friend Dennis this morning. he asked me about it,  he saw a commercial on FridaY AFTERNOON  and was going to text me but figured I would have figured it out on my own.  I am sooooo going to get it  on Monday.

But anyway, we were already at LSP so we decided to take the ferry across to Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty for a few hours. (right- we ended up getting home at 830)   It was fun.  Funny really when I was in school I hated history.  Well military history with battle tactics was fun, but the rest of history was torture.  Now with no worthwhile tv shows on network I watch mostly Foodnetwork, history, history international, discovery, discovery hd, national geographic channel, science channel, science international and military channel. SO i kinda like history now,

I guess they have their own control tower - new meaning to race control!

compliment?

Curt and I couldn't agree. I said being considered the Intellectual of Agitation and the Brains of the Movement is a complement.  Curt didn't think so.  But if we both got hit with radioactive goo, he'd be a superhero and I'd be a super villain.

Manhattan

It's been almost 9 years, but the Manhattan skyline still looks weird to me without the towers.

flag from 156 steps up~

I climbed my fat ass up 156 steps to the top of the pedestal.... the climb down was worse because a guy I swear had a cloud of green funk leaving a trail of stench was in front of us.  i thought I was going to pass out.  In the Ellis Island museum was a thing on how they made the new immigrants wash every day.  We seriously need to put that in the constitution or something.

Boats tomorrow!

The TT questions are brought to you by Berleen, the color of my rocking tan I've got going and the number 45.

Driver's Ed. Demon #1 is taking it right now. Did you pass your driver's test the first time you took it?  Yes.  I failed my motorcycle test the first time I took it, for putting my foot down twice.

You are sitting outside on your deck in your comfy lawn chair, feet are up and the temp outside is perfect. There are no bugs to bite you and ruin the night... it's peaceful and all you can hear is the birds singing and an occasional cricket. Whats in your hand? Either a Smithwicks, or a margarita.  Depends on my mood.

How many graduation parties and weddings do you have to attend this summer? Ok.. how many are you invited to? 6. 7 if you include Angie's barbeque.  5 are the girl's she hangs out with, one is her "boy toy"

There is no other choice in the matter - you must transform into a different race, but the catch is that you get to pick which race. What will you now be? That's kind of tough.  What race am I?  I really don't feel like a belong to a race to start.  You can't change to something different if you don't start as something can you?  I mean I'm English,Scottish, Swedish, French, German, Comanche and Japanese.  I don't look white, I don't look Native American , I vaguely look oriental - but most people guess Hawaiian. I don't feel like any of them.  Angie is all that and African American and unknown Native American.  So what could she change into?

Someone once said that the grass isn't greener on the other side... are you jealous of your neighbor's lawn? I'm more likely to be checking out their flower beds or veggie gardens.

Bud is walking along a beach barefooted and steps on a piece of glass buried deep in the sand. His foot is bleeding... does he cry, swear or stomp around on his other foot? My guess is all three, and then find the twins for some first aid.

I'm gonna take you fishing... are you going to be a whiney baby and not bait your own hook and when you catch a fish am I gonna have to take it off the hook for you? I used to go fishing all the time on my uncle's boat.  Let me describe an average trip.  Board the boat, put on the ban de soleil or hawaiian tropic oil (no spf)  spread my blanket on the bow, put on my sunglasses, lay down go to sleep.  After lunch, repeat but lay on the other side.  Usually at some point end up overboard courtesy of my cousins.
What hook? what bait?  when I wake up there are fish in the cooler, I really don't understand your question.

From a Facebook friend: When asked what would you bring with you to a deserted island, why doesn't anyone answer "a boat"? After my day at work today, why would I want a boat? Then I'd have to come back.  Give me a stash of yarn, and a beer cooler, maybe a cute guy and I'm good.

Hamburger buns - sesame seeds or not?Poppy seeds.

From Demon #1: Whats your favorite flavor of water? ok, I'm as likely to drink water as the wicked witch of the west.  so coffee.
