Angie update

After much lurking at the mailbox, Angie got the letter she was looking for. Out of 82 kids who applied, 57 made it into the National Honor Society. And Angie made it in!

She also made last Sunday's sports section in the spring track outlook. Last years girls team was undefeated in the regular season. There are 40 returning girls. 13 made the paper. Now she has to live up to the press! They did win their first dual meet so off to a good start.

I was somewhat feeling like a terrible Mom Friday night. We had a meeting for her trip to Ecuador, with the former head of security for the US Embassy complex in Quito. All these parents were freaking out because of the stuff going on in Mexico. And because they suddenly realized that their kids were going to a developing third world country and there is no cell service where they're going and how canthey be overprotective? I swear these people are going to spend the entire 22 days parked next to the phone. Me, I figure Ecuador is probably one of the safer countries in South America right now. Safer than Columbia definitely. As long as they understand how to act so they are not targeted for theft, and they stay together as a group, they should be ok. It is after all supposed to be a learning experience. But really letting her go to New York over Christmas was technically just as dangerous if you think about it. Just closer. Curt and I are actually thinking about taking one of the weeks as a vacation ourselves. WE figure we can still be reached via cell, Curt get's email on his cell so we are just as easy to get as at home. And as long as we bring our passports and aren't too far away from an airport, even if something god forbid happens, it won't be any harder to deal with. But really I'm not going to sit here and panic. She's getting her last bunch of shots next week, we're going to get her that bug netting to use with her sleeping bag, pants with zippered pockets, sunscreen, real deet ( not that off stuff) etc. I'm confident.

I am 77% addicted to knitting...and you??

You scored 77%. You have the optimum level of addiction; beginning knitters strive to be you! You'd knit almost anywhere and anytime, but there are times and places where even you know knitting is not permitted. Like, maybe, a wedding or a funeral. Tell your family they don't have anything to complain about.

Thursday Thunks

We pick a subject, and your job is to interpret it anyway you want. Write about it on your blog... simple as that. Maybe you can interpret it as a picture - we don't care!
Please only leave a link if you have written a Thursday Thunks post. Please mention us in your post, and link back to the blog here.
Don't forget to go visit the other participants' blogs. Read and comment about all their Thursday Thunks! Thats what all this is about after all, isn't it? We'll have so much fun and become lifelong friends....

This week we will answer some crazy questions brought to you by Kimber, the color yellow and the number 8554.

1. Did you play any April Fools jokes on anyone or have a joke played on you? I had a really good one planned for C, but I left before he showed up yesterday. I also thought about posting a bogus blog post, but the fallout from that may have been too big before i could post April Fool's. If you read my post from yesterday, my whole day felt like either an April Fool's Joke or something that could have been on candid camera.
2. If you could be on any non-reality TV show as a guest star or star, which one would it be and why? Entertaining with Michael Ciarrelo. He cooks really amazing food and his NAPA vineyard is just gorgeous. ( and he has gorgeous eyes- yes I'm a sucker for a guy with great eyes)
3. Do you crack your knuckles? Never- when I was a kid there was a really old lady down the street, now looking back I think she had rheumatoid arthritis or something, but her hands were all swollen and gnarly and misshapen, she told all the kids in the neighborhood it was from cracking her knuckles and I believed her. I still flinch now when someone near me cracks theirs.
4. If you remember your first day of kindergarten, were you scared or excited? If you have kids or grandkids, were they scared or excited? No recollection of my first day of school. My daughter went to kindergarten right across the hall from her pre-k4 classroom. She was just excited to be a "big" kid. Then when she switched schools in first grade she was sure everyone made their friends in kindergarten "for life" and she would have no friends for 6 years. (she of course had 2 bestest friends by the end of the day) same thing for middle school, as her elementary school was not in the town we lived in, same thing in high school - we have 2 regional high schools and as our town has the same number of kids if not a handful more than the other 3 towns combined, so our kids get split and her 3 best friends were going to the other high school.
5. If you are in the shower, hear the fire alarm going off and smell smoke/see flames, will you just run out of the house with a towel on or grab some clothes & dress as you run out? My rubbwer ducky and I would be outside in a towel I'm sure. I usually have extra shirts in my car ( I end up dribbling coffee at least semi-regularly)bondage duck
6. Last week the Thursday Thunkers asked about your Daddy (twice), so this week tell us a little about your Mom.My mom and I weren't very close. We got to be friends sort of after my daughter was born. She's a tiny Japanese lady (4'10" my dad was 6'7".) we recently found out that even though she could easily pass for 60, she had been adding 5 years to her age (she's 75) so people would compliment her on how good she looks.
7. Which search engine do you use most often?google-logo
8. Did you participate in Earth Hour? Only because I was engaged in ..ahem.. marital activities that don't require much lighting other than a few candles. (and those really are optional)
9. What was the last new-to-you movie you watched? Was it in the theater or on DVD? Was it good? I saw the Pink Panther 2 in the theaters. Hysterical. Steve Martin makes the perfect Cleauseau!!pink_panther_one
10. If you do something embarrassing, do you laugh it off, or sit & worry about it?I seriously don't give a rat's behind what people think about me, so if it was funny I'll laugh.
11. Where is your favorite spot in your home to sit & relax?"my side" of the couch with my feet up and my yarn next to me.

What the f wednesday

Total WTF kind of day today. (My friend would call it a Murphy's Day after Murphy's law) I swear my whole day has felt like a giant April Fool's Day joke, but unfortunately it was for real. For starters I worked a 13 hour day. And barely got more than my normal work done. First every count I had to do was on a pallet that had a problem. I had to drop down 4 skids out of the overhead every single one was mis-labeled. The asst mgr wanted me to drop a skid of granite and put it in the hole. The heaviest tile we had was on a broken skid on top of another skid so it didn't fit in the hole. I had to skootch it off so I could get it in. Took almost an hour. Ugh. Not even going to discuss my carpet issues ..yet. I got done with the work I'm supposed to have done by 10am at 2:15. Then since we arwe having "visitors" tomorrow I had this whole list of stuff which I did not even finish. I told them I'll see what I can do tomorrow, but I have a computer - not a magic wand!! Then since I was "in the building" could I help anthony out with a customer in carpet. OMG!! I wanted to hang myself, but kept a smile. 25 minutes later she opened a credit card and paid the 3000. I still got it. I really did help the lady though, whoever had originally helped her really didn't explain a lot, and the guy who did the site inspection confused her more. But I still got it.

Shall we discuss my carpet troubles now?? I have 2 empty pins on my carpet machine. Now Just for reference I am the best, seriously it's in my personnel file. I never have empty pins, but a few carpets were on backorder while the mills waited for yarn. (if the economy sucks that bad you'd think they'd have rolls ready to ship!) So both the rolls I need are on C's truck today. I know this because I called D at the terminal. She assured me the rolls were there but she warned me that C would be late because he broke down this morning, I swear his tractor cab thingy is in the shop more than any other truck I know of.
She didn't know what happened, where (as in how far from the terminal he was) , whether they could just bring hima new cab or not, how far behind this would put him. basically she knew nothing. You know the commercial for the pink panther where steve martin says, let me bring you up to speed, we know nothing, you are now up to speed, that was our convo.

I called C a couple hours later. He was still at his 10am stop. it was after 1230!! they didn't even have him backed in yet. they needed a mgr to clear the garbage from the dock and they were all in a mtg!!! he was kina screwed cause technically he was an hour late. and he still had 2 other stops before me. And because DOT says he can't drive more than 11 hours and be on duty more than 14, if he can't get to my dock by 5, he's got to go back to his terminal!! I swear I thought it was a f'd up april fools joke, but at 430 he still wasn't at my store. I checked receiving at 130- that's how sure I was it was a joke. I left so many instructions/threats the night guy in recv was like I know you like doing the carpets, I know everyone says your better at it than me, but I used to get it done, I'm sure this one time I can muddle through, and BTW I know you have it set so your truck comes early so Dan does it before I come in. And it's not just because you know how busy I get with the LTL carriers. I'm like hey, I help you out a lot. live with it, don't let my motives bother you. Cause honestly, he's a nice guy really but I just want my carpet right and if I step on a few toes... I make my friends outside of work anyway. Just aggravating.
