Thursday Thunks: Sneaking Out

The TT questions are brought to you by Bud, the color of a pumpkin pie and the number 3333.

1. When you snuck out of your house for the first time, who were you meeting and why? Out the window, across the porch roof, down the trellis...  meeting Tommy ... slurp... guy around the corner.... you've known me this long... guess.

2. Tell us about the last time that you got your heart broken. Extra points if you publish their naked photo.  That would have been a couple weeks ago, Tony in the lead, just before the white flag lap... runs out of gas... has to coast around the final lap, crossed the finish line while winner was doing burn out.  I wanted to curl into a ball behind the couch..... If I had naked pictures of Smoke, I wouldn't be sharing them!

3. Tell us about someone you know named Bob. (Yes, we know this is a stupid question. Stupid is what we do best.)  Bob Nardelli, corporate destroyer.  Was paid over 200 million to leave Home Depot,  Chrysler hired him, he flat out told Congress he wouldn't give up any of his perks, laid of thousands, was paid millions to go away.... yeah, I hate his guts.

4. We just found the perfect retail space. We are giving you the store. What’s its name and what do you sell?  Sip and Knit.... would be part coffee/tea shop with those big comfy chairs and couches, coffees, teas, cocoas and sammies and desserts, and part yarn store with amazing colors, textures, featuring indie spinners/dyers a class/club room and a store cat (can I have a store cat with food around?)  And I'd get my friend Grace (best ever KIP buddy) to sit and knit to encourage others, and I'd get her to knit my samples!

5. Tell us about your last “friend with benefits". But it would be so much more fun telling you about my next!  Actually I can't, we're friends w/o benefits now.

6. Kimber worries a lot. What was the last thing that you worried about? How my daughter was adjusting to college.

7. Do you believe “once a cheater, always a cheater”? Not necessarily.  Some people just are cheaters and don't care to change.  Other times, I think there is something wrong in the relationship caused by both people's actions or inactions and definitely non-communication, so one or both people end up having needs fulfilled somewhere else.  If the communication is fixed, and both parties are able to look honestly at the relationship, it can be fixed.

8. Tell us about moving out of your parent’s home. Who did you move in with?  Dad a deacon, me an embarrassment, Dad issues ultimatum, me had issues with ultimatums, Dad gets mad, me comes home to all my stuff on the sidewalk, dog tied to fire hydrant, cat leashed to dog.  Who did I move in with?  See  #1. (whenever I ran away, I ended up in his walk in closet)

9. What was your most recent regret? Ordering the large caramel apple latte at dunkin donuts... blech....

10. Berleen recently ranted on face book about having to got to parent-teacher conferences when your child has great grades. What was the stupidest meeting that you most recently endured?  Three hours this morning of you all suck, we should fire all of you and hire in people for half the pay that would be able to fail audits just as well, blah, blah, blah.  Ok we did fail the audit. (lowest score since I've been in the building in 2004)  But we failed because Dept Supvs, Ops Supvs didn't do their work!  So where was the Ops Mgr?  And not for nothing, but my area got 100%.  So it was time for my nail appointment, I got up and left.

11. Do you collect anything? In no particular order, Looney Tunes stuff, Tony Stewart Stuff, 49er stuff, friends who for some obvious deep seated self hate issues are
Cowboy fans, and oh yeah... Yarn.

12. Has anyone ever told you that you were in the wrong job?All the time.

13. Is there something that you’d like to complete before the end of 2010? organizing/redoing my bedroom. Since I share it with Curt, not likely.

Project me(5)

So today I'm going to tell you something odd I discovered while working on reading more of the books on the 1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die list.  I think I've matured as a reader.  To explain what I mean, I must explain that as a kid and teenager, I read a lot.  I would check out a book in the morning and return it, read at night (ok bad thing, I should have been paying attention in class instead of reading but... reading is good right?) But I didn't do that well in English class, because I liked reading the "story"  I didn't want to think about themes, symbolism etc.  I just wanted a story.

As an adult, I wanted to escape.  (Probably why I kind of avoid scary stories)  I "enter" the book and not be in the present.  So I wanted a story that sucked you in.  I never read to "think" ,  I read to "not think".  Well, because of various things I heard about Lewis Carroll I read an acclaimed biography before reading Alice in Wonderland, and Through the Looking Glass.  I read the annotated versions of these (which had a lot of the background I had gotten from the biography)

In Alice in Wonderland,  I found Alice to be really obnoxious.  Eating and drinking stuff that wasn't hers.  Ok the first two things were labeled eat me and drink me, but when she drank the potion off the rabbit's nightstand and then inflated to ruin his house it clearly belonged to someone else.  When she just invited herself to the Mad Hatter's tea party plopping down uninvited.   She just whined her way through the book.  Someone needed to slap her.

In Through the Looking Glass, she is less  whiny, and not as bratty.  She is however, seem very disdainful of the other characters she encountered on the chessboard on her way to becoming a queen.  She expected them to give her all kinds of answers (which as players in the same game they seemed quite confused about) and then she acted annoyed about having to stay and listen to what they had to say/recite/sing until she could get away from them to the next square.  A snot nosed, presumptuous brat who still hasn't gotten the spanking she deserves.  I would not have noticed this had I read  them earlier.  They just would have been fun fanciful stories.

I am now 80% done with Lady Chatterley's Lover.  Where as before it would have been a great love story, with some historical backdrops, it seems as if the actual love story is a very thin, veiled cover for a condemnation of the industrial revolution.  That the new industrial way of life is causing a piece of humanity to die, leading us all to be half corpses,  who are disconnected from ourselves as well as our surroundings.  That due to this disconnect we do not actually know who we are, or what we want, our intuition and true feelings have been eliminated, so we search for "success" or for "money".  This whole thinking while reading thing is -  disturbing to say the least.  Especially becasue it was a feeling of disconnectedness, that has led to this whole Project Me endeavor.

Eggplants!

Been awhile since I mentioned my garden (it was really rainy, and an odd garden year.  Great for peppers not so good for tomatoes and eggplant should have been ripe a month ago!)

SO here are the exotic eggplant I picked this morning, the gold are Kermits and the red are Tiogas

I also picked some more poblanos

I have some heirlooms that aren't ripe yet. I hope they turn red, but if not can you say fried green tomatoes?
