Iris update:
There are three more of those tiny irises blooming!  And 3 more budding.  So I guess they are supposed to be blooming now.  My friend Amaryllis found something that implies they are crested irises.

Field Trip:
Going away for the weekend.  Going to pay for Temple next year.  God I feel old.  Going to meet my friend Min for sushi tomorrow night :) More details when I return - although I have a gut fear my yarn for Robin will get here tomorrow and get wet - le sigh.

This morning - wearing capris due to the great weather.

using a butane torch to heat up a galvanized beam enough so a location sticker would stick on - to 75 beams.

5. Some things you are excited about?

Paying the first payment for Angie's college next year,  robin starts wednesday and my yarn comes either tomorrow or hopefully monday,  sushi with Min and Kristen tomorrow night,  Brauns sent Carl and I got to go home early!

7. Your prom night, what do you remember about it?

I went to 2 junior proms ( one mine) and 3 senior proms, but on the night of my senior prom I went to see Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom with a guy who was 8 years older than me that I had a crush on for the longest time, and decided to ask out.

8. Do you have any famous ancestors?

Yes, on both sides there are historically important people.

9. Last thing received in the mail?

Haven't checked since Wednesday.  Got a letter from Angies school about project graduation.

10. How many different beverages have you had today?

coffee - lots of coffee, a coke

hate leaving messages.  everyone should get texting!!

Carabiner with an I <3 Canada logo on it.  My key, house key, mailbox key, 2 keys for work.

The little hole thingy behind the stick shift in front of the cup holder.

About 30 people to go over the post inventory audits last month.

20. What kind of winter coat do you own?

Have a 49er coat when it is sleeting or icy raining.  A Looney Tunes jacket when its cold.   When its really really cold or snowing ( must be below 20 degrees.  I have  SWEATER  I wear.  It started out really warm, but my dad's size and then I felted it.  The rest of the time I wear sweatshirts.  i really don't feel the cold.  Oh and I have a really cool red cape when I wear something dressy.

Freak Mutant Iris

Last fall I bought a bunch of bulbs - some were really cheap - 50 cents a bag of 3-6 because the labels were torn off.  So I have no idea what some of them will be. Since the snow has been washing away ( we still after all the rain and 68 degree weather have some of the bigger piles still lingering) I found a lot of the bulbs starting to poke their way up.  Today when I came home I was really excited to see purple.  I assumed it was a crocus.  When I got closer it was a little baby (3 1/2 - 4 in high) Iris!  Now I always have bigger irises that bloom after the crocuses and daffs and tulips.  They are on the other side of my flower bed where they get more sun - so this is not one of them shrunken down.  Any ideas?

Crazy Weather

We had some crazy weather over this past weekend.  It rained cat's and dogs, with some serious high winds.  In my neighborhood some people lost power due to trees going down.   I had 3 brief ( less than 2 minutes ) power blinks, just long enough to cause the cable box to reboot. I live on high ground - but just a couple miles away the river runs through a neighboring town.

 The area where I work got hit even harder.  A large number of people in the surrounding towns had to be evacuated by boat.  On the side of route 80 on my way home I could see houses with water up to the second floor windows.

Just a little Rant!!

Today is not the Ides of March!! It may be the 15th, by our calendar, but please remember that the IDES ARE  Roman Calendar date.  The Ides needs to fall on a full moon.  Ides is from the Latin Idus, which refers to the middle divider.  The ides are the 15th in March, May, July and October.  The other months have their ides are the 13th.  But keep in mind that the calendar was set so the Ides were always on the full moon.  The New moon, marked the beginning of the month.  So if we were in ancient Rome today would be the first of a month.   Of course, there were flaws with the Roman attempt to co-ordinate the Lunar months to the solar year. The first Roman calendars was short over 60 days that "didn't count" in the winter, making March the first "official" month of the year.  Later there were 2 months added to the calendar, so the  10 extra days were "holidays" and didn't count.  Then in 45 BCE, the Julian calendar added up to 365 day with the leap years every 4 years.
