More Medals and a quiz.

Edited to add:  I have a very dear online friend Thom - of Thom's place for well whatever (link on sidebar) who lives in Hawaii.  Apparently last night theire was an earthquake rated 8.8 off the coast of Chile which is sending a Tsunami his way.  Please say a quick prayer for Thom and his friends and family. As well as Hawaiians in general.

Last Sunday, I needed something mindless to do during the race.  So I cast on a kite kitchen cloth.  Isn't it cute?  I'm going to make some more.  They are perfect for March I think.  Anyway, since I cast on and finished during Ravelympics I entered it under Team Jersey, and it fell under 3 events.Platterlift for a home project.  Single skein skate for only needing a ball or less. And StashDance for using a ball of yarn I've had for 2 years.

I'm a medal winner!!

No, you aren't seeing triple.  I have gotten three medals for my shoshie shawl.  I entered it in the beading biathalon for all the beads, the lace luge because it is over 1/2 lace and short track shawls because, well it's a shawl.  All these medals go for Team Fastgirls - the Nascar fans I " hang " out with online.  I also got this, that a lot of people are using as their (r)avatars, but mine has Tony:P .

And since I realized I never showed you guys what the finished shawl looked like:

WhaT kind of title is that??

Welcome to the February 25th version of Thursday Thunks!
)
Where we make you think a little bit before you blog!

We pick a subject, and your job is to interpret it anyway you want. Write about it on your blog... simple as that. Maybe you can interpret it as a picture - we don't care!
Please only leave a link if you have written a Thursday Thunks post. Please mention us in your post, and link back to the blog here.
Don't forget to go visit the other participants' blogs. Read and comment about all their Thursday Thunks! Thats what all this is about afterall, isn't it? We'll have so much fun and become lifelong friends....

This week we will answer some crazy questions brought to you by Berleen, the color of your keyboard, and the number 4579.

1. Who is the craziest person in your family?Um, that would undoubtable be um ME!

2. If you could make turtle shells any color you wanted, what color would turtles be? Until turtle soup becomes popular again, what does it matter?

3. How fast do hotcakes sell? Here's a question - is that headless waitress the one selling the hotcakes or is she a sample cannibal's victim?  Anyway - tuesday IHOP was giving away free pancakes - so they apparently don't sell that well.  But I don't have any hard statistics.

4. Can cannibals be arrested for being under the influence of alcohol if they have eaten someone who was drunk?  I'll have to be more careful about how much I have to drink before......

5. If I had my legs amputated, would I have to change my height and weight on my driver's license? Well, you'd have to learn to drive one of those cars without pedals.  SO you'd probably need a new license anyway.   Just curious - I think this is a drastic answer to being tired of shaving them!

6. Where do people in Hell tell other people to go? Home Depot

7. Do you make stupid little baby noises when talking to your pets?No - I prefer stupid adult noises - but the neighbors don't like listening..
8. Is the light on in the room? It's 1130 in the morning why would my lights  be on?  I have really cool cut-outs  in my walls called windows!
9. Did the voice tell you that the light is on in the room? You aren't paying attention - the lights are OFF.  that is the opposite of ON!
10. If you were to name an alcoholic drink, what would it be called? Mine!!

Thom loves me! ( or at least likes me..... at least a bit)

AN AWARD

My friend Thom from Thom's Place for Well Whatever gave me this award!  I need to find a blog commentors award (  or make one up ) for him!

Thank you soo much!  And I feel sorry for you in all that sun, when I'm getting wonderful snow this week!

Now I have to list seven things about me:

1.  I drink the equivalent of three to four 12 cup pot of coffee every day.
2.  I refuse to drive a car that's not a stick shift.
3.  I don't believe in blindly voting party lines - yet I have never voted for a Democrat.
4.  I have an irrational fear of spiders.
5.  I  always feel bad about amputating  pruning my plants so I wait too long.  I often end up cutting up a plant into cuttings, to make a ton of "baby" plants instead.
6.  I never realized how MUCH curling there is in Olympic coverage.
7.  I  am still 10 years old in my head.

Now I'm going to pass this on to:

Grace: Lovin Comfort Knits
Liz: Lizzzknits

And to close - the quiz from Thom's blog called me Dopey!

You Are Dopey

That doesn't mean you're a total dope, but it does mean you are sweet and silly - just like Dopey.

You are innocent and playful, but you're a lot smarter than you look. You can be downright wily.

You have a good sense of intuition and often understand what's really going on. You are a keen observer.

Unlike most people, you don't show your hand right away. You keep your cards close to your chest.

RIP

Not many people know this, but as a younger person (much younger person)  I was the biggest fan of Alexander Haig.  I actually cried when he resigned. ( well first I thought it was an elaborate plot to mess with me - but I didn't think my friends had access to the NYT's cover)  Anyway, the General passed yesterday, and I would be remiss if I do not mark his passing.

Since I have no intentions of hosting a political debate, any comments of that nature will not be posted, so please leave them elsewhere.

Ravelympics Update

The Olympics have been going on for a week now, so I figure it's time for an update on my project for the Ravelympics.  I will admit that I am spending most of my knitting time on my Shoshie shawlette.  It is the project I was most nervous about finishing, but I now think I can have it finished today and blocking tomorrow!

I broke my crochet hook that I use to put the beads on my loops, and that slowed me down a little bit - so much for steel huh?

I did work on my felted bowl at lunchtime Mon-Wed  I am on the sides (doubling the yarn there since I am making them higher than the original pattern.)  I want to be finished by Monday so that I can felt it when I go do laundry on Monday.  I figure I can finish it up tomorrow while watching the race at Fontana- it's nice and circular so mindless knit stitches.

After I broke my hook, I worked on my second snowflake mitt to get it started until I got a new hook.  I'm not worried about finishing, mitts go fast even when there is colorwork involved!

Swap Goodies

I know I promised you swap goody pics on Monday - but that was before an unforseen 13 hour day.  And a 14 hour day on Tue.  Which made Wed's 11 hour day feel like a piece of cake!  I am now on day 2 of a very necessary 2 day mental health vacation!!  (how people handle 2 jobs I have no idea).   The delay did have it's benefits though - I had a card in my mailbox that a signature was needed on a package from Canada- my swap package from Chelle!!!  So now you can see ALL my goodies from this round of swaps.

My package from Chelle:
swap from Chelle

There was a Malabrigo sock yarn in Tiziano red, Sockittome in Wild West, stitch markers in red & black :) awesome colors right?  a mini sock/blocker, a tape measure from the Loopy Ewe ( both red) 2 yankee candles - midnight Jasmine and Lavender vanilla, a bath fizzy in vanilla, a Vancouver Olympic mascot plush keychain (now on one of my knitting bags) organic coffee that I am drinking right now, very dark, rich, smoky  yummy!,  hand lotion from Williams Sonoma in french lavender, and last but definitely awesome - a large Vancouver Starbucks mug and a mug cozy!!  Here's a pic of the mug:
cup

Thank you sooo much Chelle!

I was in a Valentine Secret Swap-
valentine swap

A great scarf & pin, 2 hanks of pure silk yarn, a teaspoon, and a great book of patterns with a teapot stitch marker.  Here's a closeup of the marker:
teapot marker

A big Thank You and I hope your Valentine's swap package was as wonderful Sarah!!

And finally I was in a swap for Valentine's Day in my squares group.  Erin  sent me this  great package:
swap from erin
A heart illusion cloth, 4 heart coasters ( well used already) , a needle roll in chocolate and green, honeysuckle lotion, a ball of Sugar n Cream in pink/white, a bar of Ghiraldelli'd Midnight Reverie (you guys do know I LUVS dark chocolate right?) ferro roche and reeses peanut butter cups - the picture is missing several  reeses due to Angie and I seeing peanut butter/chocolate and the rest is kinda blurry!

Thank you soo much Erin!!

And yes, I have a habit of signing up for too many swaps, but can you blame me?  So I've signed up for an Easter Swap that has to go out by March 15.  I have what I consider to be the perfect yarn for my swappee and I have bookmarked a pattern to go with it on Rav that I'll send as a gift the day she gets her package.  I have a couple extras already ( I kind of pick those up as I go along)  I've second guessed the yarn/pattern of what I'm going to make her, so I may change that.   I also just signed up for the caffeine addicts spring swap. I find out who my swap partner is this weekend, so I'll be able to start planning that.

Thunks by Teens

Welcome to the February 18th version of Thursday Thunks!

This week we will answer some crazy questions brought to you by Berleen's demon spawns (teenagers), the color of snowflakes, and the number 7200.

They are 15 and 13... that is your warning.

And thanks to Bud for reminding us that it was time.

1. Why are computer mouses called mouses?Well, I could be funny, but I actually know the answer - which is kinda funny - thanks to going to geek college.  The mouse was invented by  Stamford Research in the late 70's early 80's and the cord was not on the end with the buttons, so it looked like a tail, with the 2 buttons being ears on the front.  When Apple first brought it out standard in 84/85ish the "experts" said it was a fad that would die in a couple of years!
2. If a guy has no money and he goes into a bar does he get kicked out?Um. as a girl I really don't have the correct experience.  I know back when I was single (thinner & cuter) I never actually needed money when I went into a bar to go drinking!
3. Why does Taryn hate rat terrier puppies?Because they grow up to be rat terriers??

4. Why do polar bears not moo?Polar bears mooing??  That's too funny!

5. Why do people let doves fly at their weddings?Because in the days before catering halls (and since we know there were shot guns at weddings) guests would shoot the doves for dinner.
6. Why are no two snowflakes alike? Ok, seriously - you guys really don't want another science geek lesson do you?
7. Why do people want things that don't work? (ads in newspapers - like junk batteries wanted)I think you should pose this questions to the people that marry useless people.  I have more self-esteem than that.
8. Why do we have to wear shoes at school? My daughter's school allows flip flops. ( I'm kinda jealous because mine didn't - yes there were flip flops back then) As a matter of fact - Curt texted me last week that "my daughter" went to school in flip flops and it was 34 degrees with snow on the ground.
 9. Why do people wear socks with sandals? Two reasons.  A. it is 34 degrees and peer pressure forces you to wear flip flops to school. ( Angie 's fault - she's one of those kids that cause other kids to feel pressure I think) or B. You have a lifelong dream to be a geriatric Italian Old man??
10. Why do we always want bear hugs?because seriously, nothing is better than a big bear hug. ( Let's face it that's why I go to work every day, I get a bear hug from at least 4 or 5 people a day- takes the pressure of Curt after all)

11. Why do dogs lick people's toes? And why do they like to lick lotion? They are tasting you.  Just in case you decide to stop feeding them , they need to figure out who in the house is tasty.  Lotion is like doggy hot sauce. It makes everything tastier.
12. Why do people get this little thing pierced - as she points to the little thing on her ear.Because, once upon a time, one of those peer pressurizing trendsetters went to get their ears pierced by someone with Parkinson's and needed to pull off having the weird piercing.
13. Why do dogs like to eat out of litterboxes? I'm just hoping your dogs only lick your toes!  Remind me never to let your dog lick me!
14. Have you ever eaten a sandwhich that had really weird things in it?This is a rated PG blog.
15. Why isn't snow purple?Because then guys couldn't write their names in it. And snowmen would look really weird.
16. When the earth was made why was the sky made blue? Seriously Berleen - may want to look into the quality of science education in your local school system.  I don't think the people who read my blog want a lesson in light refraction do you?
17. Why do cats like laser lights?because cat's are like your average knitter.  And have ADHoohhh shiny....

18. When someone invented Santa Clause, why did they make him fat?Dudes seriously?  Like 2 billion plates of cookies?  And I'll bet most of those glasses have whole milk.  No amount of dieting is going to burn those off in 364 days.  Santa has to have some kind of awesome cardiologist elf!

19. What do you think Santa does when he's not making toys? Gets lectures on cookie consumption by the cardiologist elf?  And works out with his personal trainer elf.

20. Why is it that suddenly I don't care anymore? teenagers get bored quickly
21. Why are the healthiest things for you most expensive? If you really look at the cost of healthcare in the US - it's really a pay now or pay later scenario, and really ... it's cheaper to pay now.

I did warn you....

Happy Valentine's Day, Swap updates, quiz

BeMyValentine

Happy Valentine's day (or black Sunday - if you see it that way)!!!

Curt took me out to breakfast at the diner. He had pancakes.  I had eggs benedict florentine - poached eggs over a bed of spinach and feta cheese, over griloed portabella mushrooms on top of a large pita with Hollandaise sauce.  YUM!!
He also got me chocolates- who can go wrong with chocolate?! And a new torch!! Yay! ( OK - I know that's not a "normal" Vday gift, but there was something wrong with mine!  he got me the fancy pants one, my old one was just the regular butane torch that comes with creme brule kits.  This one has an igniter and flame control dial.. yeah I'm a geek)

Angie is in Los Angeles hanging out with my brother.  So I'm making a romantic dinner for us ( after the 500 of course, Curt knows he's the #2 man in my life LOL) and since I have a new torch - sugar cages over the ice cream over the warm tarts ( hmmm who did he get that torch for??)

My swap partners have all got their packages, and I've received mine except for the one in transit from Canada - so I can show you guys pictures!!

My sent Valentine package:

Tomorrow will be my goodies (well everything except the peanut butter cups Angie and I ate before I took the pictures! )

ravelympics starts tonite!

As the Olympics start tonite, the knitting world (or at least the piece I live in) has it's own competition the Ravelympics.   I am on three teams.

My Nascar fan friends have Team Fast Girls.  I'm making shoshie - a beaded part lace shawlette.  So this is entered in 2 events - Short Track Shawls &  Beading Biathlon.

Then since I am after all from Jersey - I'm on team jersey.  I'm entering WIPs Dancing with my snowflake mitts.  - Basically finishing a project not  touched since Jan 12th.

Finally I am on Team Puck This - with Hockey fans.  I haven't figured out if  I'm making a cabled cowl or a tea cozy or what yet.  Since I'm doing a shawlette for Team Fast Girls , the other 2 teams are going to be smaller events.  So I will figure out Puck This's project by Sunday.

Thunk

Welcome to the February 11th version of Thursday Thunks!

This week we will answer some crazy questions brought to you by Berleen, the color of blood, and the number negative 18.

1. Kimber is freaking out because I didn't get the TT done yesterday. I had a busy day. Will you ever forgive me?I'll let it go this one time, but only because the Duals at Daytona is today, and that means the Daytona500 is Sunday. WOOT!  Let the Redneck High Holy Days begin!!

2. So this weekend is Valentine's Day. When you think of yourself and this love-filled holiday, what is biggest memory?  Every Valentine's Day since Angie was little I make a pink dessert on a pink plate for her after school snack.  This year she will be with my mom and brother in Los Angeles.  :'(  sniff.   Oh, right I'll have my husband to myself ;P

3. Pajama pants. Who knew it could have so many fricken opinions. (Seriously... if you don't believe me) Would you... do you... could you wear PJ pants to a store?  My daughter wears her flannel pj pants everywear.  For me to even wear flannel pj pants, they better have a Tony Stewart logo on them- in which case I'll wear them anywhere!

4. I'm gonna give you one of those big heart candy boxes on Sunday. Are you an expert at chocolate candies and already know whats inside them all or will you just take whichever one and enjoy it no matter what is inside or are you one of those people who sticks their finger in the bottom of the candy to see what the filling is then puts it back if you don't like it?  Chocolate??  A piece of chocolate you don't like?  What mean's this??  I am confused by this question.

5. Scented Candles - whats your favorite?  Vanilla, Ocean Breeze, sugar cookie.

6. Snow sucks. We've mostly all been hit. What kind of snow shovel do you have? (The rest of you who live in sunny no-snow places... tell me your favorite sunscreen brand) Shovel... it's red with a wood handle.  Curt does the shoveling, I mean what is the point of being married if you have to shovel??  I have a blue folding shovel in my trunk, in case a plow plows me in.  But no, I really don't shovel.

7. The first thing I thought of this morning when I woke up was "Oh crap. Kimber's gonna be pissed...." then I had a whole bunch of good ideas for questions to ask. Now I can't remember them. Do you keep a notebook next to your bed for times like that?I have thought about keeping a pad - I have some very weird dreams, but can never remember them 15 minutes after I wake up.  Unless I wake Curt up and tell him right when I get up.  But then he gets mad - maybe because I wake up at 230am?

8. Have you ever seen a groundhog in real, you can touch it and it will bite you, life?Yes, I see them scurrying about.  I have never attempted to get close enough to touch it.  So how would I know if it would bite me?  Seriously though, groundhogs are rodents, and like rats and mice , I don't get involved with rodents.

9. Is there any key on your keyboard that is starting to wear off? Which one is it?At home, it's relatively new so -no.  At work my F6 is worn off, because I use it an awful lot.

10. Do you think Kimber should move to Minnesota and take long walks in the snow with Berleen? Well, it does beat making Berleen move to the godawful desert.  Snow is fun and wonderful, deserts have scorpions and other creepy things.

You Are a Blizzard

You are both dangerous but beautiful. People both welcome you and fear you.

You can cause a lot of trouble and even destruction. Some would argue that you're worth it though!

You tend to overtake people and change everything. You aren't subtle, but you are sometimes hard to see through.

There is a quiet and stillness that you sometimes bring. Some find you to be quite peaceful.

No knit pics, snow day tomorrow? quiz

Hey!  Got the quiz from Thom's blog.
Really haven't got a lot to show you.  My swap partners haven't received their packages so I can't show you what I sent.  I haven't received my packages so I can't show them to you.  I kinda went a bit overboard signing up for swaps last month - maybe a post holiday letdown?  I've been trying to get all the projects knit up ( I have one more that needs to be mailed in the beginning of March)  before Friday night when the Ravelympics starts.  I  also have to finish at least a square or 2 for the Nascar knitters (GoFastKnitLeft)'s Speedweeks KAL.  Sara being a serious masochist has volunteered to seam the squares into 'ghans for Victory Junction.   That way I can start on my Ravelympics projects on Friday night without having other "need to finish" projects interrupting me.

It's supposed to start snowing soon.  I got a text from Carl earlier that his company is going to be closed tomorrow, so I shouldn't be an idiot and stay at work all day.  I did spend a lot of my morning trying to get ahead so I can go in early tomorrow get my stuff done and get the hell out.  Hopefully I'll be home by 7am so I won't have to deal with rush hour traffic.  We'll see if this "history breAKING BLIZZARD" actually pans out or if I'll be bitching about the hole on the radar again!

You Are Colorful Because You're Outgoing

You tell it like it is, and you tend not to leave any detail out. You have a bold personality.

You're well known for being you, and you wouldn't have it any other way. You let it all hang out.

People appreciate that you can always keep the conversation going. You always have something to talk about.

You aren't a very private person. You reveal the good, bad, and ugly sides of yourself. Luckily, there isn't much bad or ugly!
